Greener approach to Cooling Water Treatment

 

With increasing costs of water, electricity, sewer, chemicals, environmental compliance, labor etc. it makes every sense to conserve and utilize them efficiently. While there are many ways to achieve this, the most recent addition is electrochemical cooling water treatment (ECWT). This type of treatment utilizes direct current electrolysis to remove anions and cations (Ca+2 & CO3-2) from water systems in excess of calcium carbonate saturation. CaCO3 collected on the inner surface of electrolysis chamber (cathode) is flushed to drain as a daily procedure. The water conditioned this way requires very little or no chemical treatment and also eliminates the use of acid for pH control.

 

This approach also permits operating the system at higher cycles of concentration (more than 10) even with high hardness/alkalinity makeup water. Typical pay back is 12 to 24 months depending on specific local operating conditions.
